Thursday 20 December 2018

We have finally made it  and are all looking forward to some family time. The children have had a busy week with the panto and the party and I think they too are ready to recharge their batteries.
Thank you all so much for the kind gifts. We hope you all have a lovely holiday and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Friday 14 December 2018

We have had such a busy week at school with our performance and Christmas lunch. The children have coped really well with the changes but I think they are all ready for a break.
On Tuesday 18th December we will be having our Christmas party in the afternoon. The children can come dressed in their party clothes. You do not need to send in any food as we are going to be making our own. The children will be seeing Papa Noel so please speak to me if you have any concerns.
On Wednesday 19th we will be watching a performance of Rapunzel with the rest of the school and finally on Friday we finish at 2.00pm
I think we will all be ready  for a mince pie.
Have a nice weekend.
Mrs Robinson :)

Friday 7 December 2018

We are getting nearer to the end of term and the children are now in the Christmas mood. We have been rehearsing and are ready for our performance. Sometimes when the children go on stage they become a little unsettled as they see lots of adults around the room and start to panic about where their parents are. Can I please reassure you that if we see any of the children upset we will take them off the stage and they will be able to sit with us.
I am going to give you a list of changes to the timetable so that you can see what is going to happen over the next 2 weeks.

Tuesday 11th Dec      Performance to the parents 9.30am
Wednesday 12th Dec   Performance to the parents 1.30pm
Thursday 12th Dec      Christmas dinner
Friday 14th Dec            Christmas jumper day
Tuesday 18th Dec      Christmas party 1.30pm
Wednesday  19th Dec  Panto 9.30am

As you can see it is going to be very busy but lots of fun.
We would like the children to wear green, red and white in any combination for the production. This will mean they have to wear these clothes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  I will try my best to keep them clean !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great weekend
Mrs Robinson;)

Friday 30 November 2018

This week the children have been using rulers and other equipment  for measuring. They have been very creative with their resources using masking tape, bricks, pasta, cushions and many other interesting things. We have also been looking at how we can record what we have measured. We have looked at charts and drawings to help us understand  our findings.
On Wednesday the children decided that they wanted to make a picnic. They made their own shopping lists and even put the costings down for me to go to the shops.
On Thursday the children made their sandwiches and we had a big indoor picnic.
Thank you for all your donations for the Christmas Fayre, they are greatly appreciated and it was good to see all the festive outfits the children were wearing.
Each year we make a class Christmas hamper for a raffle prize at the fayre. Could you please send in an item to go into the hamper by Wednesday the 5th December. This can be anything such as chocolates, wine and biscuits.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Mrs Robinson:)

Thursday 22 November 2018

Christmas has arrived!!!! We have started  singing our songs for the concert. The children are very excited and have done well joining in our old favourites. We will be sending out information shortly about the concert and ticket allocation.
There has definitely been a chill in the air this week as the cold weather arrives. Could you please make sure that all winter outer garments have names in as they can very easily be lost or mixed up with someone else. Could I also remind you that the children will need their welly boots so that they can access the outside area at all times.
We are focusing on maths in the setting at the moment and the children are really surprising us with their ability to problem solve and find new ways of working things out, both independently and in groups. We will be continuing to monitor this over the coming weeks to see how we can extend the children thinking and experiences in relation to maths.

Have a good weekend
Mrs Robinson:)

Friday 16 November 2018

This week we have been focusing on respecting each other and how we communicate. The children have been very receptive and we have all learnt a lot about how to communicate appropriately. We are very lucky in the unit as we have all the children together and we spend a lot of time understanding about sharing space and equipment. We also know that what we say  and how we speak to others is important.
We are pleased to see that the same amount of children are engaging with the outside area as there were in the Summer. Often at this time of year a few children decide its too cold to be outside and spend more time learning inside. The outside environment is as important as the inside and it provides an excellent environment for learning. Maybe we have toughened them up.
We are going to be starting our Christmas songs soon so if you hear the children singing Christmas songs you can blame me.
Next week we are going to focus on using our imaginations. We will be trying to make our own stories and adventures by the power of thought.
Have a good weekend.
Mrs Robinson:)

Friday 9 November 2018

The children have settled back into their routines and we have had a fun packed week. We have been looking at the festival of Diwali and the children have enjoyed making Rangoli patterns and having their hands painted.
Next week it is Anti-Bullying week. The theme for this year is to choose respect over bullying. For the first day of anti-bullying week, which is November 12th, we would like the children to wear odd socks to school for ‘Odd Socks Day’. I have already chosen mine and they are very funky.
On Thursday 15th we will be discussing safety on the internet which we will be adapting to suit the age of our children.
On Friday the 16th of November we will be supporting Children in need. This will be a non uniform day and the children can bring a teddy into school. In between all of that we will be continuing with our learning. We are going to be using numbers in lots of different ways both inside and outside.

Take a look at our drone art on the front page of the website.
Have a good weekend.

Thursday 25 October 2018

We have reached the end of this half term and I think we are all ready for a rest. We have been so fortunate that the weather has held out and we have had the opportunity to continue with outdoor play without coats, hats, gloves and all the other winter clothes. It will be nice to have some cold crisp days so that the children can see the changing environment which bring new learning opportunities and experiences.
With the cold weather potentially coming soon could you please make sure that any extra clothing that comes in is labelled. This is really important as we do spend a lot of time looking for lost items that are not labelled which is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
After the holidays the children do not need to bring a drinking bottle to school. We will provide water for them throughout the day.
I wish you all a lovely holiday.
Mrs Robinson:)

Friday 19 October 2018

This week we have been focusing on celebrating difference. We have enjoyed sharing many stories which have promoted lots of positive discussion. We also joined in the school art display which will be filmed with the drone on Monday morning. The children have enjoyed the story of 'Handa's Surprise' and we looked at the different fruits that are eaten in the story. We have decided to make a tropical fruit salad next week to try fruits that we don't normally eat.
I have put all the times for parent consultations in the entrance to the unit. Please speak to me if you have any queries regarding this. On Tuesday morning the consultations will be help in the main school and on Thursday evening they will be held in the unit. I am looking forward to seeing you all and sharing information about your child's first weeks at Little Heath.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs Robinson:)

Friday 12 October 2018

We have had a fantastic week in nursery and the children are beginning to understand how important it is to care for each other. We have been working very hard with sharing and accepting that sometimes we cannot always have what we want when we want it. Even when we really really want it. We will continue to support the children throughout the year with this concept.
I think the weather is about to change so can you please make sure your child has some welly boots in school so that we can access the outside area regardless of the weather.
We have created a new role play area which has a safari jeep in it. We are going to be looking at African animals and the children will have the opportunity to dress up as the animals and look at their habitat.
The children have done well with the makaton signs and we will be introducing some new ones next week. We will also be  holding a themed week around celebrating differences. Through this we hope to raise awareness, tolerance and acceptance levels of the the children of the many differences that exist between people in different ways.

Can you please send in a family photograph so that we can talk about our families and who lives with us.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs Robinson:)
